Month: May 2013

Come and celebrate …..

You may be aware that the new ‘permissive path’ between Marchamley and Hodnet is now complete. This has been a significant project whose aim was to satisfy ambitions first expressed in the Parish Plan – and later supported by the results of a (2011) resident’s questionnaire. Its completion has only been possible due to the kind co-operation of the landowner, and by Shropshire Council and Hodnet Parish Council working together – with support from the Hodnet Footpath Group.
For the first time in decades it is now possible to walk between the villages safely, whether for pleasure or to access local services.
To mark the occasion, on Tues 11th June, at 7pm, a short ceremony will take place to officially open the new path. This will take place at the Marchamley end of the path (by the start of the village).
Some of those involved in its planning and construction will be there, and we also hope to have some local press coverage arranged too. Karen Calder, our local Shropshire Councillor, has agreed to ‘cut the ribbon’.
If you are already using the path, or intend to do so, please come along and show your support for this major project.

Next Footpaths Group walk: Sunday 26th May

Hodnet Footpaths Group have arranged another walk, and we hope that some of you might be able to join us. Details are as follows:
Sunday 26th May, meet at Lyon Hall car park for an 11 am start. We intend to walk up to Marchamley via the new footpath, then back down the Hearne to Hodnet. This should take about an hour (approx 3 miles). Dogs on leads are welcome, but larger dogs may need a hand over the stiles. Sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are advisable.
Please feel free to bring friends along – we aim to see our local paths well-maintained and enjoyed by as many people as possible.
