Hodnet draws up its plans for a right royal day of fun – Newspaper Cutting

The Queen’s Silver Jubilee is to be celebrated with a bumper programme at Hodnet.

A jubilee committee has been formed, with Mr Arthur Barnett as chairman, Mr Tom Griffiths as secretary and Miss Rachel Harrington as treasurer.

Village organisations are represented on the committee.

The jubilee programme starts on June 5 with an interdenominational service in St Luke’s Church.

On June 7 there is to be fun for all the village with a full day’s entertainment.

Children up to and including primary school age are to receive jubilee mugs and the older children up to 16 are to receive jubilee coins.

The recreation ground is to be the scene of a village fete. The proposed programme includes a fancy dress parade, sports for all age groups, a tug-of-war, a baby show, a painting competition for children and a barbecue and dance.

Another attraction suggested is an old-time cricket match.

Mr Barnett said local organisations were already raising funds to help finance the programme.

“If we make any profit a meeting will be called to discuss how it will be distributed,” he said.
