Recycling

We all like to think of things we no longer wish to keep being put to good use somewhere, but knowing where to direct each sort of item is a different matter.

In addition to council collections which accept paper, plastic, glass and metal packaging plus general waste and garden & food waste, here’s a round-up of some local recycling facilities, correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. Please note it is a guideline rather than a guarantee that your particular items will be accepted by the locations listed below.

Locally there is the Bring Bank at Hodnet Social Club, TF9 3NS, with bins for mixed glass; food & drink cans; paper; shoes & clothes.

Of the charity shops in Market Drayton, Oxfam take clothing, pots & pans and CLEAN bedding. They reportedly recycle as much as possible if they cannot resell it directly – see here and here for more details.

The Sue Ryder shop takes CLEAN clothing, printer cartridges, small electrical items in working order and DVDs – but NOT videos. See: here and here for more information.

Specsavers in Market Drayton take redundant pairs of glasses and pass them on to Vision Aid

There are Council Bring Banks at the Towers Lawn Car park in Drayton, next to the bus station. You can recycle small electrical items such as hairdryers, phones, kettles (but not light bulbs or batteries) there, in addition to clothing, shoes, textiles (no duvets), mixed glass, cans & tins and paper.

As well as a Council bin for clothing, textiles & shoes, several charities (Salvation Army, Oxfam & Variety) have bins at Morrisons in Drayton, taking bagged, clean clothing, textiles & shoes.

Moving on to larger household items, we have been told of two furniture and electrical shops pleased to receive such items. Both shops are open 7 days a week, and will collect larger items from your home address. Note: all electrical items need to have a sealed plug.

The Severn Hospice shop is at 57 Ennerdale Road, Shrewsbury SY1 3LD (01743 211092).

The British Heart Foundation shop is in Stafford, 12 Princes Street, ST16 2BN (01785 891490)

And finally, for items not mentioned above, here are a couple of generic recycling sites to bookmark for future reference:
