Hodnet and District Garden Club

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 15th October, 7.30pm at the Lyon Hall, when we welcome Fiona Chancellor

She is an ardent supporter of the National Garden Scheme and has won a number of awards for her garden including the Daily Mail and Shropshire’s Best Garden of the Year award, along with other awards in the English Garden Magazine. Her presentation will show how her garden has progressed over the years and we are sure the evening will be interesting and informative.

Treasure Hunt

Treasure HuntThe second annual Hodnet Scouting for Treasure, treasure hunt took place yesterday in glorious Autumn sunshine. Fifteen teams took part, with teams from as far away as Macclesfield joining in. The course wound its way around the beautiful Hodnet Hall Gardens as well as taking in part of the village of Hodnet. The clues devised by Brice Bozier were challenging but great fun and all those that had a go enjoyed themselves.
The first prize of a family pass for the 2014 season to Hodnet Hall Gardens was won by MJHD with 75.5 points. Well done to them.  Their team name will be added to the trophy. View full list of the results here; 2013 Scouting for Treasure – Results.
2nd Hodnet Scouts would like to thank all those that took part, and Mr and Mrs Heber-Percy for allowing their garden to be used for the event. Big thanks to Brice Bozier for all his time and hard work devising the questions. Also, thanks to Andrew Lockley for organising the catering.

Join the Conversation

Information about this series of events has been forwarded rather belatedly to the Hodnet Footpath Group, but we are posting it here in case others are interested in taking part in this county-wide discussion on the effects of spending cuts in the public sector.
“The public sector in Shropshire faces huge spending cuts in the coming years. The changes that ensue will undoubtedly impact on your local services, so we want to hear from you and understand what you want and need from public services. Do you have ideas as to how things could run more efficiently? What services do you consider a priority? We want to hear from you. We are holding a series of events around the county where you can “Join the Conversation” and pose questions to senior representatives from Shropshire Council, the police, the fire and rescue service, and Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group.”
Meetings have been arranged in different parts of Shropshire on four evenings this week. The last one is on Friday 20th September at 7pm at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury. Full details can be found [here]; please note, if you wish to submit a question, this has to be done in advance.  You can find the link to send in questions by email to the organising team on the Shropshire Newsroom report.

Theft of a motor vehicle from roundabout

West Mercia Police have reported through their Neighbourhood Watch Update system the theft of a motor vehicle from near Espley Roundabout. Local residents may have notice a Vauxhall Zafira parked on the grass at the side of the A442 to the south of the roundabout. The Neighbourhood Watch Update states:

Between 8-11 September, a silver Vauxhall Zafira was stolen from beside the A442 near Hodnet. The car had broken down and was left temporarily by its owner who was then hospitalised for a week following an accident elsewhere. The parked car was noted by police on 8 Sept but had gone when its owner went to collect it on 11 Sept.

If anyone noticed the vehicle being removed please can they pass the information on to the West Mercia Force Control Room by calling the non-emergency police telephone number “101”.
