Drayton Road Planning Application – Refused

Drayton Road Proposed Site Plan
Shropshire Council’s Planning Department has yet to publish the decisions made at last Tuesday’s North Planning Committee. However this weekend’s Market Drayton Advertiser (12 June, 2015) carries a report on page 13 which states that the Committee went against the Planning Officer’s recommendation and rejected the application.
This may not be the end of the process though as the applicants have the right to appeal the decision.
Update 18 June: Today the Planning Committee’ decision was posted here on Shropshire Council’s website. It states:

Land off Drayton Road, Hodnet, Market Drayton, TF9 3NF (14/03403/OUT)Outline application for the erection of 14 dwellings (to include access and footpath link to Wollerton).
Decision:  That planning permission be refused against the officer’s recommendation for the following reasons:
It was acknowledged that the housing proposed by the development would contribute economically and socially by boosting the housing supply including open market and affordable housing and help towards improved pedestrian link between Wollerton and Hodnet to which weight was given. However it was considered that this was outweighed by the harm identified. The Committee were concerned that the development would result in an unacceptable harm to the open countryside and have an adverse impact on the adjacent conservation area specifically on the approach to the village. Furthermore weight was given to the fact that the proposed development was not plan led being contrary to both current saved policies of the North Shropshire Local Plan, the emerging policies in the Site Allocations and Management of Development DPD, which classified the site as being within open countryside contrary to Shropshire Core Strategy CS5, and the environmental impact on the countryside as indicated in paragraph 7 of the National Planning Policy Framework.

On-Line Patient Access for Hodnet Practice

Derek Hodge, Parish Council Chairman, encourages local residents to register on-line with the Hodnet Medical Practice. He writes:

About one third of the patients of the Hodnet Practice have now registered on-line. They have the ability to book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and view their current medication and report allergies. This can save time and money and at a time to suit you when ordering prescriptions or making an appointment. This is a very valuable resource and the Practice would welcome more of those registered to sign on and take advantage of these on-line services. Do not be put off as one of the highest numbers in an age group using this service is in the 60-69 year band!
If you are already on-line but are having difficulties accessing the system it is possible that you need to re-activate your account and obtain a new PIN. If you can’t fix this on-line then a call to the surgery to ask for assistance is possible but avoid the early morning peak periods when people are seeking advice, making appointments etc.
Don’t put it off. Register on-line today! To do so go to www.patient.co.uk/patient-access

More information can also be found on the Medical Centre’s own website.

Wollerton Building Conversion Wins Award

The Granary WollertonThis week the Shropshire Newsroom reported on the Shropshire and Staffordshire regional LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Awards. The event was held at the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield.
A home in Wollerton came out at the top of the Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion category. The Granary, Woodlands Farm, Wood Lane gained the accolade in this classification. The winning project team consisted of BSP Construction Ltd., Base Architecture and Shropshire Building Control.
Michael & Jenny Morgan, who now live in The Granary, did not know that their new home was in the running for the award until after the event. Having recently moved across the farm yard, they are still busy putting the finishing touches to their house and garden.
The Local Authority Building Excellence Awards are the “Oscars” of the British construction industry and aim to recognise builders and their agents who have completed a building project to a high standard of construction in the past twelve months. All schemes taking part in the event were initially nominated by their Shropshire building control surveyor.
The winners of the Shropshire & Staffordshire event will now be entered into the West Midlands Awards to be held in September 2015. Should The Granary be successful there, it will then go through to the national finals in London later this year.

This survey will only be available in an on-line format.
This contains two sets of questions, one for those aged 7 to 11 and another for those aged 11 to 17.
Click here to go direct to the youth survey.
Young people completing this survey can also respond to the main one if they wish to.
The closing date for both surveys is 30th June, 2015.
The focus group ask as many people as possible to help in making the surveys as widely known as possible. If you are involved in a local group which has its own noticeboard, or you have a window which other people walk past, we would encourage you to download and print one of the following posters and put it on display. The brightly coloured poster is intended for use in places which cater specifically for young people. (Click on an image to download a poster.)

National Rural Crime Survey

Shropshire Council is encouraging residents in rural areas to participate in the National Rural Crime Survey.
National Rural Crimes Survey Logo
The NRCS is the largest ever survey into crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in rural areas ever to be launched in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is intended to discover how the police can better serve rural communities. The survey, launched by the National Rural Crime Network, is calling for people who work or live in rural areas to come forward and give their views on policing in their community, the impact crime and ASB has on them and their neighbours and to ultimately help shape the future of crime prevention and rural policing.
Shropshire Council is supporting this survey as we are keen to use the local feedback from this survey in our own policy and strategy development with partners and communities.
Anyone living or working in rural areas is encouraged to take part in the survey. You don’t need to have been a victim of crime to have a view on how the police work. To find out more this project visit the National Rural Crime Network website.
It should take between 10-15 minutes to complete and the survey is open until Wednesday 24th June 2015.
