Country Walk: Sun 3rd Sept

With the weather improving (at least slightly!), Hodnet Footpath Group invite anyone who would like to join them to come along on Sunday Sept 3rd for a circular walk (Hodnet Walk Leaflet 6) from Hodnet to Fauls and back.
Note. If you only wish to do half of it, you could leave a car at Fauls in advance (By the Church) to enable you to drive home from there.
Meet in the Lyon Hall (Hodnet) car park for a 10.00 AM departure. This walk should take about 2.5 – 3 hrs return and requires a reasonable level of fitness – as it has a fair number of stiles, but in return is a pretty/varied walk through a bit of countryside you’d never really see from a car.
Suitable/sensible clothing advised, children and dogs welcome – the latter on leads. Feel free to bring a drink/snack with you.
In the event of appalling weather the walk will be cancelled, call Steve on 01630 685697 around 09:30 if unsure on the day – or otherwise for more information.

Marchamley Mysteries Walk – June 2017

On Sunday 4th June about 30 local people joined a walk around Marchamley. We spent a great afternoon wandering around the Marchamley Mysteries – the Ginny ring, ancient motte and Bailey, etc.
Sandwiches, tea and cakes were provided at Marchamley Club. Children were welcomed and entertained with craft tables and activities. We chalked up one more successful get together.
Heather Preece took the attached photos during the walk.

Marchamley BBQ – Sept. 10th 2017

Everyone is talking about the forthcoming BBQ which will be held at Marchamley Club and in the adjoining field. Plans are taking shape; posters are up and 140 flyers are being delivered door to door.
Local people are pitching in, contributing the marquee, tables, chairs, plates and cutlery and a generator for the music.
We have a planning meeting at Marchamley Club on 22nd August at 730pm for everyone who wishes to be involved.
There will be games/sports, a cake stall with teas and coffees available throughout the afternoon. The barbecue will be on offer from later in the day with small plates charged at £2 and large ones £3. We are organising a supply of Tanners wines and real ales and lager.
We are asking everyone to donate either a cake for the cake stall or an item for the buffet to accompany the barbecue.
All profits will go towards renovating the club.

The BBQ is planned for September 10th between 2:00 & 9:30pm

Come along on the day to join in the fun.

Hodnet & District Garden Club: September meeting

Hodnet & District Garden ClubThe next meeting will take place on Tuesday 19th September at the Lyon Hall, Hodnet at 7:30pm, when we look forward to an illustrated talk by Jim Almond of the Alpine Garden Society on the subject of “Bulbs the Year Round”.

Jim is an excellent speaker as well as a very knowledgeable plantsman and a keen photographer, so it should be a very professional presentation. It’s just the right time of the year too, when the bulb catalogues plop through the letter box, so do make the effort to come along to the first meeting of our autumn series and bring friends with you.
Visitors are always most welcome. Annual membership is £10, guest fee is £2/visit and light refreshments are served at the end of the meetings.
