£50,000 of Counterfeit Goods Seized in Hodnet

Picture: WMP website This morning (18 Sept. 2018) West Mercia Police have published a report of counterfeit goods being seized after they stopped a car being driven in a way which caused concern. The vehicle was spotted and stopped in Hodnet on Thursday 13 Sept. (N.B. When published the report incorrectly gave the date as 19 Sept.)
Items inside the car caused the officers to suspect that they were counterfeit and consequently they arrested the driver. This was followed by a search of a house in Hodnet and a significant amount of goods, all believed to be counterfeit, were seized. Among the items seized were 400 pairs of trainers, football shirts, jackets, perfumes, hair straighteners and watches. The goods are estimated to be worth around £50,000.
Police and Trading Standards have now launched a joint investigation.
Picture: WMP website Sergeant Darren Stacey said: “This is a significant amount of counterfeit goods we have seized which we suspect are likely to be linked to organised crime and reinforces our commitment to disrupting and dismantling the criminal behaviour of those involved in serious and organised crime. We are now working closely with Trading Standards to carry out our investigation.”
The report concludes by saying that a 28 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of articles to be used in fraud, and released on police bail.
Today’s Shropshire Star report has larger pictures on it.
