Concert of Early English Music

St Lukes Church

St Luke’s Church, Sunday 15 September, 3.00pm

A short concert of early English music in St Luke’s Church performed by Jacobi Chorale. This will feature Mass of the Western Wind by John Taverner and instrumental interludes. The Mass is one of John Taverner’s best known works and is based on a tune that goes back to a secular poem from medieval times “Westron Wynde”. Entry to the concert is free, however donations will be gratefully received and will be shared with the Church. Please join us afterwards for refreshments and an opportunity to speak with the singers and instrumentalists.

Jacobi Chorale, an early music choir was founded in 2007 under the direction of Dr Paul Nevins. Performing across the Midlands their focus is mainly on music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and Bach’s St John Passion are two of the large scale works they have performed. Shorter, afternoon concerts are increasingly popular and have featured works by some less well-known composers as well as the more familiar including Gabrieli, de Rore, Tallis, Byrd, Purcell and Vivaldi.
