Wollerton Water Main Replacement – 64 Buses Avoiding Crossroads

Roadworks SignDespite the good intentions of Arriva and Amey, this week’s update has to report that drivers of the 64 bus have found it impossible to negotiate Mill Road/Wood Lane crossroads whilst parts of the junction are excavated. Consequently, Arriva has instructed its drivers to avoid Mill Road until the traffic lights have been removed. This means that the service through Hodnet has also been disrupted, with no buses along Drayton Road and the top of Shrewsbury Street. Journeys from both Shrewsbury and Market Drayton are for the time being both approaching Hodnet from Espley Roundabout; on reaching Station Road they are turning around at the Fire Station. They then return to Espley roundabout before turning right or left towards their destination.
Samantha Pedley, Amey Customer Liaison Officer, has informed the webteam that their site agent has been assessing the situation and was hopeful that the buses would be able to negotiate the obstacles, but Arriva has decided this is not possible at present.
Amey currently expect the excavations at the crossroads to be completed by the end of next week (Friday 18 Jan.) at which point the traffic lights should also be removed. Amey and Arriva are monitoring the situation. It is hoped that the buses will revert to the original diversion route once the crossroads are cleared.
The section of Drayton Road between Wollerton and Lostford will continue to be closed even after the the work at the crossroads has been completed.

Tree Trimming in Marchamley – 11 Jan 18

Roadworks.org has published information about possible delays in Marchamley tomorrow, Friday 11 January, whilst Western Power cut back trees from near overhead power-lines. The description of the location may not be immediately clear to local residents, but the map on the website suggests the work will take place on Eastlands.

Wollerton Water Main Replacement – Road to be Closed, Buses to be Diverted

Work on Phase 2 of the Wollerton water main replacement will start in earnest on Monday 7th January when a Road Closure Order comes into effect between Wollerton crossroads and Lostford. The order is expected to remain in place until Friday 8th March. Throughout this period drivers are reminded that whilst access to properties in this area will be maintained, travelling through the length of the works will not be possible for a significant proportion of the closure. Drivers should therefore use alternative routes until the road is fully opened after the work is completed.
One group of drivers who will be taking this advice are those who work for Arriva. For the duration of the closure the 64 bus route in both directions will be diverted along Mill Road. From Monday this will add extra time to the journey between Hodnet and Market Drayton, and may also delay the service in the direction of Shrewsbury. Besides Mill Road, the temporary route will include a section of the Hodnet bypass. The webteam have been informed by Arriva, that their drivers will be instructed to treat the part of Mill Road where there are dwellings (i.e. between the crossroads and Wollerton Old Hall) as Hail and Ride, this will enable passengers to board and to alight from buses at any safe location. Drivers using Mill Road should also be aware that they may encounter larger vehicles than they would normally expect.
The following update was provided to the webteam on Friday 4th Jan. by Samantha Pedley, Amey Customer Liaison Officer. Amey are the contractors carrying out the work for Severn Trent Water.

We have now set up four way traffic lights on the junction of Mill Road and Main Road, as we intend to start excavating on phase 2 from 07/01/19 in the direction of Lostford. Please be aware there will be access to properties only. Traffic will not be able to pass through at any time whilst we’re on site.
Work in the village is now complete with only a small excavation area next Wollerton Old Hall Gardens. The road closure was removed before Christmas and traffic can get through to the village by either end. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these works.

Full details of the ongoing project to replace the water mains in these parts of Wollerton are in our earlier post 22 Weeks of Roadworks in Wollerton.

Wollerton Water Main Replacement – Phase 2 about to commence

When Severn Trent Water announced 22 Weeks of Roadworks in Wollerton, Phase Two (on the old A53, Lostford) was scheduled to commence on 7 January 2019. That date is still shown on the relevant page of the STW website.
Today, Roadworks.org has circulated an email alert containing information stating that the second phase of work will now begin on Wednesday, 2nd January. It is not clear if the starting date for Phase Two has been brought forwarded because Phase 1 was completed ahead of schedule, but if local residents were expecting the work not to start this week they should be aware that STW’s plans seem to have changed.
The three notices (here, here and here) all cover the dates of 2 to 15 January, a period when there will be 4 way lights controlling traffic at the junction of Drayton Road, Mill Road and Wood Lane. These will not only inconvenience local residents, but anyone who uses this route to travel between Hodnet and Tern Hill.

During the course of next week, some properties will be transferred on to the new water main and will be without supply for approximately 30mins. We will contact the properties affected directly, to advise when this will happen.
