Clip CLOP Appeal: Ollerton – Peplow

Everyone who uses our network of Public Rights of Way (PROW), e.g. footpaths and bridleways, will occasionally encounter seemingly incomprehensible dead ends or missing sections (‘gaps’). Indeed, we have some examples in and around Hodnet parish

All who value access to the countryside are encouraged to have a look at this website’s new “Clip CLOP” Appeal page for more information on a local campaign to legally (re)establish, as a bridleway, a long used but now blocked route between Ollerton and Peplow. If succesful, this will complete a ‘gap’ in our local network.

After you have visited it, we hope you will feel able to support it in some way – whether financial or practical.

Visit the Clip CLOP page HERE.

GAPS – More Information.
Often, ‘gaps’ in the current network are the result of inadequate recording of historically used routes when the first official PROW maps were drawn up, by Parish and County Councils, in the 1950’s. Sometimes these ‘gaps’ may reflect a past reluctance of Parish Councils to act against the expressed/supposed wishes of influential local landowners – who might not wish to have certain past routes formally recognised/recorded as passing over their land. Either way, The Ramblers organisation have recorded thousands of past used routes that are ‘missing’ from the current official (Definitive) rights of way maps – as part of their “Don’t Lose Your Way” campaign.

Explore ‘Wollerton Wetlands’… & beyond !

The next public walk in our programme for 2022 is on Thursday 2nd June.

Our walk is to the Wollerton Wetlands and then on to Helshaw Grange (see Hodnet Walks 5).

This is a varied walk with good views and departs at 10.00AM – Meet/roadside parking by Wollerton Village Room.

If you want to come along please email david.wilson65@icloud.com or call 07970 304169 on or before 5pm on Tuesday (31st May) – so we can assess numbers and the viability of the event.

Many people have never seen the Wollerton Wetlands, but they are now quite established and worth visiting. So, if that is you or you’d simple like to join us for a pleasant stroll in good company please do come along.

Accompanied children and dogs [on leads] welcome on all walks. Sensible footwear advised, plus a drink/snack – although most walks are only 2 hrs duration.

Note. If weather is terrible, this event will be cancelled. If you have emailed David Wilson he will add you to our list of ‘friends’ and can then send a cancellation email on the day to warn you. So, please do let him know in advance if you’d like to attend, and how many will be accompanying you.

Walk routes can all be seen in the relevant walk leaflets, downloadable from https://hodnet.org.uk/main/index.php/tourism/local-walk-leaflets/

HFG – Walk this Thursday – Cancelled

Update. Unfortunately we have had to cancel tomorrow’s walk.

So far, no one has confirmed their attendance at the proposed public walk at Peplow this Thursday, details HERE.

If you would like to attend then please contact David Wilson ASAP, and certainly by 5pm tomorrow (Wed) evening. If we have no confirmed takers by that time the event will not run – but we do hope to see some of you at the next scheduled walk in June, for which you are again encouraged to register.

Parish Magazines

Delivery of Parish Magazines is underway. There is a new delivery person in Hodnet this month, so if she misses you, please accept her apologies and collect a copy from the Village Stores.

Coronavirus: New interactive maps to help you find nearby support

Shropshire Council has developed new interactive maps to help residents and businesses find local support that is available to them.

The maps available include searchable local food providers and food delivery services, local social network groups that have been established to provide support during the coronavirus pandemic, and community support services such as information for those who need help to pay energy bills.

These crucial new resources have been developed in partnership with other local groups and organisations. Shropshire Council has gathered together new information resources that may be used by individuals, groups and organisations throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Many other topics are also covered, ranging from advice from trading standards, to mental health and advice about how you can manage anxiety.

The maps will be kept up to date and will reflect the support that is currently available in your area and right across Shropshire.

You can find the new maps by visiting the coronavirus page on the Shropshire Council website.

Hodnet Medical Centre – Dispensary

The Medical Practice has posted the following clarification on it’s website today (25 Mar. 2020):

The dispensary is still open for you to collect your repeat prescriptions

Please could you leave 5 days rather than the usual 3 days before you collect your repeat as due to the current situation our dispensary staff are extremely busy.

Due to government guidelines we are unable to dispense more than one month’s worth of prescriptions at a time, this is to stop people stockpiling and creating drug shortages for everyone else.
