The Hodnet Footpath Group are organising a walk for this coming Sunday morning (4th October).
Meet at 9.45am at the Lyon Hall Car Park to travel to Cheswardine for a 4.5 mile walk (approx 2 hrs). We plan to follow a route detailed in one of the recently published series of walks around the Cheswardine area. Please bring suitable footwear and a drink. Children are welcome. Dogs too, provided they are on a lead.
We hope to continue with semi-regular walks over the autumn/winter months and familiarise people with the increasing number of local walks which are now available, as well as using routes within our own Parish. (For example, info about walks near Cheswardine can be accessed here, and walks near Stanton here.)
The date we have allocated for our next walk is Sunday 29th November, meeting at the same time and place. Route to be decided.
Hoping that some new faces will be able to come along.

This event is 'on' Something different for a Wednesday Eve?

UPDATE – BIT MORE CLOUD THAN RECENTLY, BUT DRY SO FAR – SO LET’S GIVE IT A GO!

Wednesday, mid-week and what to do?
Maybe you’re fed up with summertime telly? Tired of the kids twittering/facebooking? Dog keeps looking at you expectantly!
Then why not join a short evening country walk, which has been organised by the Hodnet Footpath Group for Wed 30th July.
We leave The Lyon Hall at 7pm [free parking] and expect to be back by 9pm. Our route will take us over a mix of paths, tracks and lanes to/from Marchamley Wood – total distance about 5 miles.
Sensible footwear required, dogs [on leads where necessary] and kids welcome.
If the weather is terrible the walk will be cancelled, but if in doubt check the website after 5pm for a ‘Go/No Go’ announcement!

Easter Visit to the Wetlands

Following the success of the introductory Xmas walk down the new path from Wollerton to the bypass Wetlands, the Hodnet Footpath Group has arranged a further public walk.
If you are simply curious to see the Wetlands and/or would like to walk to Helshaw Grange in the countryside beyond, please come and join us on Easter Monday – 21st April 2014.
We’ll meet at 11.00 AM by the Village Room on Mill Road, Wollerton – Where the bridge club meets, not the social/bowls club.
As an alternative you can walk to the meeting point from Hodnet itself, via the old railway line – meet at 10.30 AM by the old railway bridge on Station Road, Hodnet.
Allow around 1.5 hrs for the Wetlands part of the walk & 1/2 hour extra each way if walking to/from Hodnet.
If you are driving to Wollerton, please park on the road by the Village Room – do not park on the private drive leading into Wollerton ‘Old Yard’.
No special gear is required, but sensible footwear advised plus a drink/snack – as required. Accompanied children and dogs welcome – dogs on a lead please.

Footpath Improvements

Last Sunday, Hodnet Footpath Group added some steps and a dog gate to the rather basic existing ‘stile’ in a field by The Hearne – part of the popular walking route shown in our Hodnet Walks leaflet No 2.
We also repaired some finger post signs on Long Lane and added direction signs further on towards the route towards Fauls – the intended subject of a future walk leaflet.

'Stile' before improvement
‘Stile’ before improvement
If we had the time/manpower we would also have added a dog gate to the first stile into the field from Hearne Lane – but that will have to wait for another occasion. If you’d like to see this, or other local improvements, done sooner, then please see our webpage and get in touch.
Such work is not only of lasting benefit, but can also be good fun. We had brilliant sunshine coupled with a fair few laughs as we tried to solve the design problems of letting dogs through, but keeping livestock in!
After improvement - being tested by a dog 'we prepared earlier'!
