Palm Sunday Service with a Difference

Palm Sunday this year is the 29th of March and St. Luke’s Church, Hodnet is trying something different!
Bob Wiltshire, the interim vicar, says:

This year we are opening up the church to the whole community with a worship service with a difference.
Starting at at 2:00pm there will be craft tables so everyone can make their own palm crosses or an Easter garden. Also there will be lots of other activities for children and young people to get involved in.
If you can play an instrument, even badly, there will also be a music workshop led by the Retrospectives group. What comes out of that workshop will be the music for our short act of worship.
I do hope that you can make it even if you do not normally come to church. You never know they might enjoy it.

WW1 Remembrance Service for Hodnet Soldier

King’s Shropshire Light InfantryHodnet Parish Council has been contacted by St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury which is is holding weekly WW1 remembrance services. The services are being held every Wednesday at 5pm from 27 August 2014 until June 2019. The intention is to remember by name every man and woman listed on a Shropshire war memorial in the week of the 100th anniversary of their death.
On 8 October the lone name to be remembering is that of John Barber from Hodnet who served in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. On November 5th a total of 23 people are to be remembered including William Hill from Hodnet who served in the Royal Navy.
All are welcome to any or all of these short (approx 1/2 hour) services. The names of those to be remembered each week are shown on St. Chad’s website: www.stchadschurchshrewsbury.com/ww1-services.
Those organising the services ask that if anyone would like to have another person remembered during one of the services, to contact them. They are happy to include men and women from any conflict with or without a connection to Shropshire. The information used to compile the lists for these services is also being used to produce a county roll of honour for WW1 and the information will in time be available on-line in a fully searchable format.
